One of the things we realize quickly when we start to design systems with an interface layer is that there are no universally usable interfaces, just ones that are well-adapted to their specific users. Beyond just accessibility for differently-abled users, there are cultural differences that make any kind of symbolic reduction of complexity non-universal.

Similarly, any kind of network that promotes or favors certain kinds of content over other kinds can never be neutral. Without even involving technology, the concept of neutrality itself is suspect- Systems are created by humans who advocate for themselves and their communities, or are dependent on funding or advertisers, or are influenced by ideologies and beliefs. What we can do is try to create as much consensus as possible when creating the technological substrate that focused systems which are designed for specific communities build on. We can interrogate systems that we are all subject to, and democratize if and how they are applied.
